This major is unique in Hong Kong. It emphasizes the balance between theories and their applications to practical problems, with a special focus on applied mathematics linked to computational aspects. The major aim at equipping students and producing graduates with a strong background in data analysis, mathematical modelling, scientific computing and technical computer software. Students are trained to think quantitatively and analyse problems critically. Our graduates contribute to the commercial, financial and industrial sectors in Hong Kong and throughout Greater China. The programme focuses on linking the applied areas of mathematics and computing. BSc Computing Mathematics students are eligible to apply for the following joint degree programmes: Joint Bachelor's Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong and Columbia University Joint Bachelor's Degree Programme between City University of Hong Kong and The University of Edinburgh Direct Admission to Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program with Columbia University Direct Admission to Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program with Columbia University Starting in 2026/27, JUPAS applicants can directly apply for Year 1 entry to the prestigious Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program offered by CityUHK and Columbia University. Graduates will earn degrees from both institutions. A separate application to Columbia University is required after submitting the JUPAS application. Unspecified electives may include Category A elective subjects, Mathematics extended modules (M1/M2) (except for JS1801 ) and Category C other languages subjects (Japanese: Level N3 or above; Korean: Grade 3 or above; French/German/Spanish: Level A2 or above; Urdu: Grade E or above) (except for JS1200 , JS1201 , JS1217 , JS1300 , JS1801 , JS1805 , JS1806 and JS1807 ). If students take both M1 and M2, they are counted as one subject only. Applied Learning (ApL) subjects are not counted as elective subjects, except for JS1040 , JS1041 , JS1042 , JS1043 , JS1044 , JS1300 , JS1805 , JS1806 and JS1807 .
