Compare to our BSc Economics and Finance program, the BBA ECON students take more core courses in various business disciplines which equip them with a multi-disciplinary perspective to analyze business problems, public policies, and recommend solutions. Students interested in economic research may enroll in the Honors Thesis Courses in their final year to further develop their research skills and take the opportunity to work closely with a faculty member on their own research project. Economics is a social science that studies people's decisions under constraints. It offers expertise in topics such as behavior of consumers and firms, efficiency and equity of markets, economic growth, business cycles, international trade and finance, taxation and public policies, etc. Our flexible curriculum allows students to pursue an additional major in other business areas. Students may also pursue a minor offered by other Schools at HKUST. The interdisciplinary insight, combining the analytical nature of economics give BBA ECON graduates an edge in a range of career choice across business fields. Extended Major Extended Major ECON students may apply for the extended major in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Creative Arts and Digital Humanities (CADH) or Sustainability (SUST) at the end of the 3rd term of study, if they satisfy the extended major requirement. Students completing the extended major will graduate with a title bearing both the traditional major subject they selected and the extended major. For details, please refer to " JS5300 Business & Management ". Remarks Remarks The Year 1 curricula of JS5311 ECON and JS5300 B&M are identical. JS5311 allows students who have a special interest in BBA ECON to directly enter the major. Those admitted into JS5300 may apply to enter ECON or other business majors via the major selection exercises held at the end of the first three terms.
