Upon admission, students can select one of the three specialized Professional Cores in Decision Analytics, Risk Management, and Statistics within the Bachelor of Statistics (BStat) degree for more in-depth education. They initially choose a Professional Core as an indication of their preferences upon entrance, with the flexibility to switch between cores based on their interests during their studies. The Professional Core in Decision Analytics focuses on leveraging and managing big data in real time, emphasizing statistically guided AI techniques for strategic decision-making and resource allocation. It aims to blend data science and statistical reasoning to enhance artificial intelligence with human intelligence. The Professional Core in Risk Management provides expertise in the theory and methodology of risk management, including quantitative modeling, financial risk analysis, and statistical methods, while promoting good risk management practices. The Professional Core in Statistics emphasizes the study of statistics as a scientific discipline involving analytical and quantitative tools for logical thinking, problem- solving, probability reasoning, and data analysis to support decision-making. Graduates from the Statistical Decision Sciences programme are eligible to become a Graduate Statistician (GradStat) designated by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), UK, with accreditation ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment. Additionally, passing specific courses may qualify graduates for the RSS Data Analyst award.
