Our definition of English Studies embraces the study of Literature in English, Applied Linguistic Studies and Language Studies. We see English Studies holistically, making all possible links between Language and Literature. We concentrate on modern English - literature in English, and the English language as currently used throughout the world and in Hong Kong. While the programme places great stress on the language proficiency of its graduates, it also emphasises the nature of English as an academic discipline in these fields. The English Studies Degree Programme, thus, offers a curriculum that introduces the student to, and prepares the student for, English as a mode of thinking that is at once literary, linguistic and practical, in the context of “World English”.
