Transcript for Marketing and Design at Lancaster University
The Marketing and Design degree at Lancaster University is special because it allows business students, marketers to dabble and to get a taste for creative thinking, design thinking in the creative industries.
Marketing and Design is quite a unique course. It is a joint degree which is offered in conjunction with the School of Arts, the Design discipline there, and the Marketing Department, and it offers students the possibility to study a degree with a creative focus.
And to get a sense of not only all the different aspects of the marketing process from consumer behaviour to marketing research, but also to develop an in-depth understanding of the design process itself.
My favourite thing so far about Marketing and Design has probably been a lot of the design courses and what I've been allowed to do in them. For example, one of the courses that I chose for myself was design materials, where I got to 3D print and laser cut. And you know, this sounds really incredibly difficult, but I'd never done any kind of laser cutting or 3D printing before. I mean, it was so much fun and I got to make whatever I wanted and some of the tutors and the professors were really helpful and really, really funny.
In a highly competitive job market, this programme is unique because it offers the students the possibility to develop a unique expertise in two different fields of study namely design and marketing. A lot of our graduates manage to secure jobs and a number of positions afterwards, which combine design thinking and this marketing or business orientation. It is essentially a degree that combines creative and analytical skills and also helps to develop interdisciplinary thinking.
My time at Lancaster University has allowed me to become a more confident person and confident in my contributions. It has allowed me to realise the value that I can contribute to a group of people. The value that I bring to the table, and has allowed me to reassess what I think is important to me and for my future career.
