My Defining Moments: Why you should study BA (Hons) Filmmaking at Leeds Beckett University Third-year student Samuel talks about his most memorable moments studying at Leeds Beckett University.
Transcript
It's Samuel Pearson. I'm a final year student studying filmmaking at the northern Film School. Becky Be Bold was an ad we shot. I was directing and producing and that was a pretty big moment for me because I've never directed anything at that scale. So 20 people on a set, especially learning filmmakers such as myself which was quite a challenge, but from a leadership perspective I think this definitely was a big developer for me.
And it also helped me understand what part of the industry I wanted to go into. The best speakers so far we've had was the lighting technician from House of the Dragon. There's something about having someone from that high up in the industry come in and teaching you that it makes you feel a lot closer to the industry you're actually going to go into. One of the defining moments for me was when I actually saw the building in the studios for the first time.
The studios are massive and not to mention the industry standard kit the university lets that students use. We're very privileged to have what we do here. I think that was a pivotal moment for me because it's turned me into the filmmaker I am today.
My defining Moments: Why you should study BA (Hons) Filmmaking at Leeds Beckett University Third-year student Marion shares her most memorable moments studying at Leeds Beckett University.
I'm Marion and I'm in my third year of Filmmaking. I had to pitch a film for our graduate Project. Finding out that our idea had gotten through with enough votes from the student body and from the tutors, it felt amazing. That experience has just made me feel a lot more confident in myself as a filmmaker and as a producer wanting to pitch ideas. I've met a lot of friends through the course as well as the K-pop Society.
I've made two really close friends and I met my boyfriend in the society so that's really helped me to feel like I belong at least. I got offered by my tutor to work on her future film as a second assistant director. The Experience gave me a really great networking opportunity to meet all of these different actors and crew and stay in touch with them after I graduate so hopefully I can work on more projects with them.
Leeds School of Arts ‘When I feel like I’m sinking’ is a poem to mark the opening of the Leeds School of Arts building at Leeds Beckett University. Recited by the poet and Leeds Beckett graduate, Zodwa Nyoni, this short film showcases the creative work produced by our Performing Arts, Music and Sound, Filmmaking, and Creative Technologies students and graduates.
