Contextual offers
We apply a contextual admissions process for UK undergraduate applicants who have been in care, attend a low performing school, live in an area where few students go to university, or are the first generation of their family to enter Higher Education.
Those who are eligible may receive a conditional offer with reduced entry requirements, typically up to two grades lower for A-levels and one grade (or eight tariff points) for BTEC or mixed qualifications.
Mixed qualifications
Typically the only scenario where we make conditional offers expressed as UCAS tariff points is when an applicant presents mixed qualifications, most typically a combination of A-levels and a BTEC qualification.
In this instance, we may make a tariff point offer to present the applicant with more flexibility on equivalencies. In this case, please be aware that we may still ask for a specific score across certain qualifications and subjects. E.g. 'This offer is conditional on you achieving 128 tariff points. This must include A-level Mathematics at grade B.'
Subject exclusions
We do not accept General Studies and Critical Thinking. These subjects will not be included in any conditional offer we make.
Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
We welcome applications from students who are completing relevant EPQ Projects. Whilst we recognise the value of these projects in preparing students for independent learning at university, the EPQ is unlikely to form part of any conditional offer we make.
The EPQ will also not lower the specifics of any conditional offer we choose to make. We will consider the EPQ as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.
AS levels
We recognise that there will be differences of opportunity varying by school and college. As not all students will have the opportunity to sit AS Level exams, it is unlikely we will include AS Level grades in any offer we choose to make. Where students have completed an AS Level subject, we will consider this as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.

If you do not qualify for direct entry, you may wish to take a foundation programme first. These programmes are designed to prepare students for entry to City St George's' undergraduate courses.

Principles of Microeconomics (15 credits)
This module introduces you to the core ideas of microeconomics — how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions and interact in markets. You will explore how prices are determined, how markets function and sometimes fail, and how economic theory helps explain real-world behaviour. By learning to think like an economist, you will gain insight into how incentives drive decision-making and how policies can influence social and economic outcomes. The knowledge and skills you develop here will underpin your future study of applied and theoretical economics.
Principles of Macroeconomics (15 credits)
Discover how economies work at the national and global level. This module introduces you to the key principles of macroeconomics — the study of the economy as a whole. You will examine how governments, central banks, and international institutions respond to challenges such as inflation, unemployment and growth. By the end, you will be able to connect macroeconomic theory with real-world events and policy debates. This foundation will prepare you for more advanced study in economics and help you interpret the economic issues that shape daily life, business, and politics.
Principles of Management (15 credits)
Learn what it takes to lead, organise, and inspire. This module introduces you to the core ideas and practices of management in modern organisations. You will explore how managers plan, lead, and make decisions in dynamic environments, and how effective management contributes to organisational success. Drawing on examples from business, public services, and non-profits, you will examine the human, strategic, and ethical dimensions of management. By the end of the module, you will understand key management functions and develop skills that prepare you for leadership roles in diverse workplaces.
Introduction to Financial Economics (15 credits)
This module introduces the basic principles of financial valuation, including the time-value of money and the risk/return tradeoff. It develops tools for the quantitative analysis of corporate and/or individual financing decisions, and of capital budgeting decisions. You will be taught how investors think about the value of streams of cash flows that arrive at different times. You will also examine capital budgeting decisions and the evaluation of those decisions. Moreover, you will learn the concept of risk and methods of valuing risky assets will also be examined.
Data Analysis 1 (15 Credits)
In Data Analysis 1, you will understand how an economist thinks and works. You will find that data, statistics and quantitative analysis are at the core of what an economist does. You will be introduced to the collection, manipulation, representation, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and presentation of statistical data. These are all essential skills that economists have. The module will also offer you the opportunity to develop transferable skills, ranging from the critical understanding of data, the writing of economic reports, the analysis of quantitative output and the effective communication of economic and financial ideas.
Data Analysis 2 (15 Credits)
Building on the knowledge and skills acquired in Data Analysis 1, the purpose of this module is to expand and deepen your understanding of statistical data analysis and infer-ential statistics. The module applies a problem-based learning approach. That is, the knowledge and the skills developed in this module are better acquired through learning-by-doing or, in other words, through active IT Lab and workshop activities.
Mathematical Methods for Economic Analysis (15 credits)
Economists carry out economic analysis by using a varied set of methods that range from inductive and deductive techniques to the use of data and quantitative methods to test economic theories. Underlining all these approaches is the use of mathematical techniques that help to formalise theoretical and applied frameworks of economic ideas. This module introduces you to the key mathematical techniques used for economic analysis and how they apply, in particular, to the formalisation of microeconomics and macroeconomics ideas and models that you will explore in your study of economics. The module places greater emphasis on the use of graphical analysis in the explanation of key concepts.
Finding your Future in Economics (15 credits)

It raises awareness of the wide range of careers available following a degree in the School of Policy and Global Affairs, building your confidence to explore options you may not have previously considered. This foundation is supported by training in practical skills needed to secure professional employment in competitive industries, including CV and application writing and securing work experience. Alongside developing skills for graduate employment, the module also builds understanding of the academic literatures that inform career management thinking, including an overview of 'legal' frameworks and 'social justice topics' that explore how societal inequities may be experienced in the world of work and how these can be navigated.
