Please note: All new entrants are required to undertake a criminal record check (PVG) at the point of entry to the programme. All applicants must attend for interview and, if successful, must undergo health screening and criminal record checks. Enrolled students are required to make an annual declaration of good health and good character. The University must affirm this declaration before registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is possible.

English and Maths

All applicants must have passes in English in one of the following: National 5 C and GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent. National 5 ESOL is accepted in lieu of National 5 English.

Where English is not the first language, applicants require IELTS at 7.0 (with no band less than 7.0) or equivalent.

All applicants must have passes in Maths/Lifeskill Maths/Application of Maths in one of the following: pass at National 4 or National 5 C and GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent. Higher Application of Maths at grade C is accepted.

NHS Tayside & NHS Fife Band 4 Mental Health Assistant Practitioners (MHAP)

Direct applications for entry to Year 2 of this course are welcome for NHS Tayside and NHS Fife Band 4 Mental Health Assistant Practitioners (MHAP) with a level 8 56-credit PDA award and a minimum of a year’s clinical practice in a mental health care setting. In order to undertake accreditation of prior clinical learning a supporting reference should be submitted from an appropriately qualified Practice Assessor who has worked in partnership with the MHAP, and who can provide an objective and evidence-based assessment on the conduct, proficiency and achievement of the MHAP, drawing on observation of practice, the reflections of the MHAP on their practice, and co-ordinated feedback from other registered MHNs in the clinical area. All students are required to participate in the Abertay College Transition online programme and complete a bridging health promotion unit during Freshers’ Week.
