Architecture entry requirements

A GCSE pass at grade 9-4/A*-C (or international equivalent) in Mathematics is required.

For international applicants the equivalent of 128 UCAS tariff points/A level ABB is required for BA Architecture and the equivalent of 64 UCAS tariff points is required for BA Architecture with Integrated Foundation Year. Please contact our International Admissions Team for more information.

Standard requirements

The standard entry requirements* for this course are one of the following:

128 UCAS tariff points, see accepted qualifications

Merit at Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (Level 3 or 4)

Distinction, Distinction, Merit at BTEC Extended Diploma / BTEC National Extended Diploma

Merit at UAL Extended Diploma

128 UCAS tariff points from an accredited Access to Higher Education Diploma in appropriate subject

29 total points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program with at least 16 IB points at Higher Level (HL), see more information about IB entry requirements.

And five GCSE passes at grade 9-4/A*-C including Mathematics and English (or Functional Skills English/Key Skills Communication Level 2).

Other relevant and equivalent Level 3 UK and international qualifications are considered on an individual basis, and we encourage students from diverse educational backgrounds to apply.

Foundation year requirements

The standard entry requirements for these courses are one of the following:

Pass at Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (Level 3 or 4)

Pass, Pass, Pass at BTEC Extended Diploma / BTEC National Extended Diploma

Pass at UAL Extended Diploma

*We occasionally make offers which are lower than the standard entry criteria, to students who have faced difficulties that have affected their performance and who were expected to achieve higher results. We consider the strength of our applicants’ portfolios, as well as their grades - in these cases, a strong portfolio is especially important.

Undergraduate requirements for students from Hong Kong SAR

For our Bachelor's courses, we usually require a Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education with 433 (excluding Chinese, English and Liberal Studies).

Foundation year requirements for students from Hong Kong SAR

For our Integrated Foundation courses, we usually require a Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education with 322 (excluding Chinese, English and Liberal Studies).

For our International Foundation in Creative Practices and our Integrated Foundation courses we can also consider five IGCSE's with grades 9-4/A*-C.

English language requirements for students from Hong Kong SAR

We accept the a Hong Kong Diploma for Secondary Education (HKDSE) English Pass at the following levels:

Level 3 or above for international foundation year courses

Level 4 or above for undergraduate, integrated pre-master and postgraduate courses

Level 5 or above for the MBA course

If you take the IELTS test you will need to achieve the following scores (or an equivalent from other UCA-approved English tests):

Undergraduate degree (BA/BSc/BMus):

6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in any section

Undergraduate degree with Integrated Foundation Year:

5.5 overall with no less than 5.5 in any section

International Foundation in Creative Practices:

5.0 overall with no less than 4.5 in any section

Masters Degree (MA/MSc/MArch):

6.5 overall with no less than 5.5 in any section

Integrated Pre-Masters (13 Weeks):

Integrated Pre-Masters (30 Weeks):

Postgraduate Research (PhD/MPhil):

7.0 overall, with no less than 7.0 in writing and 5.5 in any other section

Portfolio requirements

For the BA (Hons) course we’ll need to see an portfolio, no portfolio is required for the course with an Integrated Foundation Year.

UK applicants: We will invite you to attend an Applicant Day so you can have your portfolio review in person.

International applicants: We will ask you to submit an online portfolio.

In your portfolio we’re looking for examples of your current work that showcases your creative, curious, and ambitious mind. You don’t need to create new pieces – just show us your skills and passion from your existing work. An example would be a design or art project, presented alongside a sketchbook to describe your thoughts and processes as you created your final outcome.
