Please note, we regularly review our course content to offer relevant, impactful and career-shaping learning. Therefore, the following modules are indicative and subject to change.
Compulsory modules
Exploring Macroeconomics
This module introduces macroeconomics and examines the broad landscape of the global economy; interest rates and stock prices; the balance of payments problem; the changing structure of the money and capital markets; the issue of inflation and deflation; labour markets and unemployment; governmental regulation and deregulation. Problems are addressed at both the domestic and international levels. The module's approach is economics-driven but not overly technical.

During this module you will examine concepts including consumer choice, supply and demand, price control and taxes, and the differences between market structures. Your ability to understand, react to and, to some extent, control microeconomic influences on a firm are crucial business skills, so what you learn will apply to your working life.
Quantitative Methods
The module aims to provide an understanding of the role of data analysis in business and finance. Develop basic analytical and numerical skills into an ability to approach and solve business problems and develop the ability to interpret numerical results as an aid to decision-making.
Professional Skills
In this module, you will learn to outline academic writing skills and presentation skills, show effectively working with others towards the completion of a task (teamwork skills), present skills in oral and written communication in the business environment, as well as duplicate the importance of business etiquette and the importance of rules and values in an organisation.
Principles of Business Law
During this module you will start to learn the basic principles that govern business law, focusing on contract law, company law and insolvency law. By examining these principles, you will be able to better understand the practical problems that arise in different market sectors.
Understanding Business

It will prepare you to understand the wide range of issues and topics encountered in business transactions from a business professional's perspective.
The Learning Through Work module is for students on the internship route only.

This module introduces you to financial risk management and investment strategies. It covers how risk is shared in the economy, methods to reduce it through diversification and hedging, and key models such as CAPM. You will examine different types of financial risk, the instruments used to manage them and learn to analyse financial statements and reporting quality. The module also includes ratio analysis, corporate finance choices, modern portfolio theory, behavioural finance, and the role of ESG in investment. By the end, you will have the tools to manage risk effectively and make informed investment decisions.
Economic Policy Analysis
This module will enable you to analyse the role of government and non-government organisations as they attempt to alleviate societal problems. Topics include the methods of government intervention in the marketplace, measuring the costs and benefits of government policies, and current policy applications such as social security reform, education policy, health insurance and tax reform.
Research Methods for Business Economics
This module will prepare you to undertake your dissertation project at Level 6. You will work throughout the semester to write the research/project proposal, which you will undertake at Level 6. This module aims to provide you with a broad knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices in conducting research and evaluation. It focuses on the use of a range of research methods to successfully undertake the business economics project.
Applied Data Analysis
This module develops your intermediate skills in statistical analysis, building on the Quantitative Methods module from year one. It emphasises the construction and evaluation of statistical models using both quantitative and qualitative data. You will explore three main types of regression models, cross-section, time series, and panel, focusing on model building, descriptive statistics, estimation, and evaluation. The module also provides practical experience in applying these techniques to real-world datasets, with hands-on use of statistical software.
Entrepreneurship and Start-ups
The aim of the Entrepreneurship and Start-ups module is to investigate the stages of the ‘Ideation Process’. This encompasses developing and presenting new business ideas, with a focus on innovative, disruptive solutions to real-world problems.
The module takes this process from problem identification to the actualisation of a business model. This is achieved by fostering an entrepreneurial mindset that identifies and pursues unique opportunities to create value in the marketplace through creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking.
Global Financial Markets
The financial industry has undergone tremendous changes over the past decade, and this module gives you the opportunity to explore how global financial markets affect all our lives. This module provides a broad overview of the financial industry and the drivers that impact it. You will also study market indicators which may signal future financial crises. The module focuses specifically on the role and nature of the City of London and other leading financial centres, including New York, Frankfurt, Singapore and Hong Kong, and examines how they are structured and organised.
Learning Through Work
Economics of Artificial Intelligence
This module looks at how artificial intelligence (AI) is shaping economic growth and labour markets. It introduces key ideas from intelligence and information theory, links them to models of production and technological change, and explores the risks and opportunities AI creates for jobs. The module also considers the role of policy in guiding the development and use of advanced AI.
Behavioural Economics and Happiness
This module explores the dramatic shift in economists’ thinking, from traditional economic models based on rationality to models grounded in empirical observations of human behaviour. You will study behavioural economics, an emerging area that integrates insights from psychology into economic models of behaviour. You will also explore how measures of subjective well-being can provide a more comprehensive understanding of welfare and improve societal outcomes.
Contemporary Issues in Business Economics
This module looks at major contemporary issues in economics and business and considers their wider impact on society. You will learn how to apply economic ideas to real-world problems, explore how these challenges are driving new ways of thinking, and evaluate responses from policymakers, academics, and businesses. The module also encourages students to think ahead by considering how current trends may shape the future. This module will also explore leadership models and their theoretical underpinnings. We will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the different models and their efficacy at different levels of leadership.
Business Ethics and Sustainability
This module aims to enhance your understanding of how business can impact society in an ethical and sustainable way, delivering long-term value for all stakeholders. Global environmental issues have a major impact on the way businesses operate. Considering sustainability at the heart of every business operation will help businesses align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), mitigate climate-related risks, and create new business opportunities.
Business Economics Project
This module will enable you to develop, implement, and submit, as a dissertation, the research proposal you submitted at the end of Level 5. The content will address the following topics: situating your own work within the existing literature; empirical and desktop research; methodology and ethics; practical issues; presenting findings; writing-up structure; and highlighting possible implications of the research for practice or policy.
