Overview
The purpose of BA Content, Media and Film Production is to inspire the next generation of creative screen entrepreneurs, equipping them with the knowledge, critical thinking skills, professional skills, and the mindset to develop a range of filmed projects to their intended audiences.
This course challenges you to create content in multiple audio-visual contexts. You will work on a range of different media formats, including film, TV, social impact storytelling, branded content, podcasts, websites, and a graduation project of your choice.
This programme equips students to think across different forms of media, to make exciting connections, and to ultimately become both entrepreneurial and employable by the time they graduate.
Tuition Fees and Student Finance for UK Students
This course is offered through our partnership with BIMM University. UK students on this course may be eligible for the maximum Tuition Fee Loan amount, which covers the full tuition fee. Please check the Fees & Finance section for more information.
Why Take the Course?
Multidisciplinary: Students will learn practical filmmaking skills within the context of multiple areas of the screen industry. This includes areas such as film, TV, advertising, music videos, UX, and podcasting. Students will benefit from a module system where they acquire knowledge and understanding about the evolving media landscape, learn about storytelling, analytics, audience media consumption, and contemporary trends in delivering video content.
Practitioner Tutors: Learn digital video production skills from professionals who are active in the media industries, ensuring that the skills learned will be relevant and up to date*.
Interaction with Industry: Each semester, an Industry Partner from a creative brief will set a brief, and students will produce content for them as part of their assessment. Our previous partners include Twitter, Amazon Studios, Golin, BFI, and TikTok. The Industry Partner will provide a brief, provide feedback on student pitches, and at the end of the semester, feedback on the final product.
Portfolio: Coupled with practical experience, students will emerge from their degrees with a portfolio of professional content, and a business plan to help them navigate the complex media and creative industries job market.
*For a selection of the tutors who teach across our campuses, please see Our People.
Awarding body: BIMM University.

Facilitate the application of key techniques and creative approaches, cultivating a critical understanding of the relationship between the concepts, conventions, and theories that support/underpin students’ practical work.
Teach a wide range of creative, technical, and editorial skills associated with all aspects of screen production, including film, TV, online/social media, advertising/branding, and gaming/VR.
Promote awareness of contemporary ethical, social, political, and commercial considerations associated with the exhibition of screen content across an array of platforms.
Module Overview
Visual Narrative (Semester 1)
You will define your creative purpose through the development of a short form piece of work that identifies and connects with the target audience. Learn the basics of content, media, and film production to create a coherent narrative using a range of production techniques and technical skills. Experiment with your learning to create a coherent production, finding an audience to tell a story that meets the brief set by the Industry Partner.
Documentary (Semester 2)
Use the power of storytelling to trigger an emotive response or ‘change of heart’ from the audience through social impact filmmaking. You will learn to create documentary and factual content, to work with subjects, people, clients, and to observe, capture, and edit material to support its’ emotional power. Incorporate your learning into the creating of content which shows a demonstrable change in opinion.
Commercial Campaigns (Semester 3)
You will be tasked to inspire an audience to make a choice or change their behaviour through a piece of advertising or branded content in response to an industry client brief. Learn how creative agencies and producers engage with clients to create content that will affect opinion, build brands, and change behaviour, as well as learning to write, direct, shoot, and edit for relevant formats.
Cinematic Storytelling (Semester 4)
You will develop an understanding of the core concepts of fiction storytelling, and develop an understanding of the audience’s relationship with film and television through the production of a short film, TV pilot, or feature film trailer.
Transmedia (Semester 5)
Employ engaging storytelling techniques and use evolving new media technologies to create a brand that garners a loyal following. Learn the business dynamics involved in building a real presence in the digital space, engaging with both new and emergent innovations in audience engagement, and developing your skills in creating content with the capacity to build a loyal audience. This may include the creation of a trailer for a SVOD series, a podcast, an interactive website, or a social media campaign.
Graduation Project (Semester 6)
You will incorporate your previous learning into a self-defined graduation project that develops your skills and showcases your talent in one of six specified areas. Develop your chosen area, discover new techniques or technological methods to create film or content, and learn entrepreneurship and business skills to raise funding.
