You’ll explore both physical and virtual spaces for your work, while considering key ethical, material, and audience factors. Through this hands-on process, you’ll build the skills needed to present your work professionally and connect with your audience in a meaningful way.
Professional Practice Core30 credits+
How can you align your creative work with real industry opportunities? In this module, you’ll begin with a personal analysis to reflect on your skills, aspirations, and career goals. From there, you’ll plan and produce an industry oriented photography project of your choice, whether that’s still life, portraiture, fashion, interiors, landscape, or another area, aiming to create work that meets professional standards and fits a chosen context. You’ll also build a research portfolio featuring case studies and career planning activities, helping you map out your place within the contemporary cultural and creative industries. By the end of the module, you’ll understand how to present your skills effectively to clients, audiences, and employers, supported by a strong digital portfolio and a clearer sense of your professional direction.
The Portfolio Review Core30 credits+
How do you develop a project that reflects your unique creative voice and meets professional standards? In this module, you’ll choose an individual area of interest and produce a fully resolved, self-directed body of work for portfolio presentation. You’ll be encouraged to experiment, refine your working methods, and develop a reflective, research informed approach that aligns with real world industry practices. You’ll receive regular feedback through tutorials and group seminars, where you’ll test new ideas and take part in discussions about your own and others’ work. Alongside this, you’ll take part in workshops that mirror professional networking environments, helping you shape a project that is not only creatively ambitious but also industry ready.
Many of our courses include a range of modules you can choose from. Some options may only be available if you’ve already studied specific modules. If you’re not sure what you need before picking a module, your course leader can help.
