Combining your English and Politics studies gives you a very wide range of modules to choose from and can lead to a diverse range of careers.

You can study the history of English literature from the medieval period right up to the present day. Start with a basic overview of the subject and move towards choosing modules to suit your own interests.

A wide range of modules give you the option to study anything from Shakespeare to science fiction, Romantic poetry to contemporary poetry, creative writing to visual culture, or Victorian novels to Hollywood films.

Politics confronts the big issues that affect societies the world over. You’ll get an overview of the British political system as well as examining some of the most complex problems faced by humanity and the ideas that underpin them. The MA degree means you study Politics alongside other subjects from History to Geography, languages to Psychology. At Levels 3 and 4 you will be able to specialise.

Our current teaching includes optional modules on Russian, Irish, and Middle Eastern politics, nations and nationalism, political theories, and on human rights and humanitarian intervention. Topics such as illegal drugs, gender and sexuality, environmental sustainability, and surveillance are also covered.

“It is great studying the MA programme - you get the scope to try before you specialise. I’m a Politics student but I also get to study History and Film. I could have studied anything from a wide range of modules under the MA programme. Including Psychology, Philosophy, Business, Economics and Languages – just to list a few.”
