Entry Requirements
We’re looking for applicants who can demonstrate both a genuine passion for music and vocal performance, as well as the ability to successfully complete a Higher Education programme at pointblank.
Typical offers will be set from:
UCAS Tariff: 112 points
A Levels: BBC
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: DMM
BTEC Diploma: D*D*
Access to HE Diploma: 15 Distinction + 15 Merit
GCSE English: Grade 4 / C
Applicants will be invited to submit a vocal audition as part of the selection process.
Don’t meet the grades or have the relevant experience?
Don’t worry — we know that vocal talent, creativity and potential don’t always fit neatly into formal qualifications. If you don’t meet the academic requirements, you may still be considered based on your experience, portfolio and demonstrated ability. Our Admissions Team reviews every application holistically and may recommend our Foundation Year or an alternative route to support your progression onto the degree. Many students have successfully joined us through these pathways. We also accept T Levels and a wide range of comparable international qualifications. For full details, see our London Degree Entry Requirements page.
Fees & Funding
Course Fees
We know that funding options for your course can be confusing. We can assist you with this to make things a little easier. Being an undergraduate student involves two main expenses: tuition fees and living costs. Students can either choose to pay for their degree programme privately or, alternatively, we have a range of courses which are eligible for Student Finance loans.
Academic Year 2026/27 Fees
Home (UK)
£9,790 per year
International (non-UK)
£15,750 per year
Academic Year 2027/28 Fees
£10,050 per year
£15,950 per year
Student Finance
Eligible students may be able to apply for a tuition fee loan to cover the full tuition fees. Eligible students may also be entitled to a maintenance loan to help cover living costs. The amount of maintenance you can apply for will depend on your circumstances. You can view additional information on our Fees & Funding page.
Most EU students are automatically eligible for our We Are Europe Scholarship, which means you’ll pay UK fees instead of international fees. See the Scholarships, Bursaries & Funds page for more information.

Courseoverview
This course is the first year of our BA (Hons) Vocal Performance & Songwriting degree.
The CertHE Vocal Performance & Songwriting is designed for creative artists who want to write, record and perform their own music at a professional level. Blending songwriting, vocal artistry and live performance, this course provides the tools, confidence and industry insights needed to develop your artistic identity and build a sustainable career in today’s music industry. You’ll explore yourself as an artist, developing your songwriting and vocal techniques from lyric and melody writing to vocal delivery.
At the beginning of the course, you will take part in a professional songwriting bootcamp (see example here) with industry experts such as Grammy and BRIT-nominated singer/songwriter RuthAnne, who has penned global hits for artists including JoJo (“Too Little Too Late”), Britney Spears, One Direction, Niall Horan, and more. This immersive experience gives you the space to focus deeply on your writing and artistic development away from distractions, helping you push creative boundaries and discover the core of your songwriting identity.
This Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) can be funded through the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE), whether you're entering higher education for the first time or returning to study using any remaining LLE funding to develop new skills and knowledge.
Based in the heart of Shoreditch - London’s global centre for music and creativity - you’ll have access to world-class studio facilities, live rooms and performance spaces equipped with professional microphones, SSL and Neve mixing consoles, and the latest music technology. Small class sizes (maximum 16) ensure you receive personalised guidance and mentoring from lecturers with real industry experience, who have worked with global artists such as Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams and Rihanna.
Regular guest masterclasses, open mic nights and performance showcases will help you grow your confidence, stage presence and network within the music industry. You’ll also have the chance to release your own material through pointblank Recordings (PBR) and receive A&R mentoring to support your artistic development.
Graduates from this programme go on to successful careers as songwriters, recording artists, vocal performers, topliners and creative collaborators. Whether your goal is to tour, record, write for others or teach, this course will help you build a professional portfolio that showcases your artistry and prepares you for a vibrant career in the global music industry.
Explore the detailed module breakdown below to see how we’ll help you achieve your goals. On successful completion, you can progress to years 2 and 3 of the BA (Hons) Vocal Performance & Songwriting degree.

Do I need to buy software & equipment to take the course?
Depending on your programme, certain hardware and software will be essential throughout your studies. To help with your independent learning and assessment work, you will need to have access to this equipment outside of the campus. However, if you are able to attend classes on campus, this equipment will be available to use either in class or by booking practice time. Note that you have access to our facilities 7 days a week during term time for the length of your course (excluding scheduled breaks). Please visit our Software and Hardware Requirements page which lists the hardware and software you are required to own for each programme. Where you may choose to study online (distance learning), this equipment will be essential to your studies and assignment work. If for any reason you cannot afford to purchase an essential item, you may be eligible for financial support via the Financial Assistance Fund. If you wish to buy equipment or software, pointblank students qualify for discounts from Apple Education, Ableton, Native Instruments, Serato, Pioneer DJ and other leading industry partners.
Can I get funding for this course?
You may be eligible for funding this course under the Lifelong Learning Entitlement, you can check this page for more details.
Do I need a music or music technology qualification to apply?
Studying a music or music technology qualification before applying for one of our Higher Education courses would be beneficial, but is not a prerequisite. If you are currently trying to decide which academic subjects to take at school or college (i.e. GCSE, BTECs or A-Levels etc.) we would therefore highly recommend choosing music or music technology. However, if these subjects are not available to you at your school or college, we will still be happy to consider your application. In this instance we would recommend that you undertake personal studies that will equip you with a similar level of musical knowledge, theory and literacy, in addition to your practical studies.
What is my weekly study schedule?
Each module requires your attendance at one class on campus which will be 3 or 4 hours long depending on the module. 3-hour classes will also have an additional 1-hour virtual seminar each week. You can also book up to two 30-minute virtual tutorials with your lecturer per module per term. In addition to your classes, seminars and tutorials, you are expected to schedule sufficient independent study and practice time each week. Most modules are worth 20 credits, and each one involves around 20 hours of learning per week. The school facilities are open 7 days a week during term time, allowing you to work on assignments and reinforce the knowledge and skills learned throughout the term.
Can I take this course and work at the same time?
This is a full-time course, but it is possible to work alongside your studies if you can be flexible. Most modules are worth 20 credits, and each module involves around 20 hours of learning per week, including classes, studio bookings, one-to-one tutorials, guided tasks and independent study. Most terms consist of two modules which involves 40 hours of learning per week.
We recommend working no more than 15 hours per week, and it’s important that your job can fit around your studies — this may mean working in the evenings or on weekends. Some students choose to do independent study in the evenings and work part-time during the day, but this requires strong time management and a flexible employer.
Your timetable will be confirmed about a week before the start of each term, so you’ll be able to plan your schedule accordingly.
