This course has a strong practical focus, allowing you to apply and develop your skills. Some modules include case study analysis and business consultancy working closely with real-world companies.
We use a wide range of teaching methods to suit different learning styles, including:
Lectures
Small-group seminars
Activity-based workshops
Group projects
Individual projects
Timetabled activities
In your first year, you can expect:
2-4 hours per week
Seminars
2-5 hours per week
Workshops
These figures are representative of a typical week. Your contact hours will vary throughout the year due to your module choices, non-compulsory classes, exam periods and changes to scheduled activities.
Outside your timetabled hours, you'll study independently. This may include preparation for classes, follow-up work, wider reading, practice completion of assessment tasks, or revision.
In the UK, full-time students are expected to spend 1,200 hours a year learning. That's about 40 hours of classes and independent study each week during semesters. Everyone learns at a different rate, so the number of hours you spend on independent study will be different to other students on your course.
Teaching location
You will be based in the School for Business and Society on Campus West. Most of your teaching will take place in the Church Lane Building, with additional contact hours elsewhere on Campus East and Campus West.
About our campus
Our beautiful green campus offers a student-friendly setting in which to live and study, within easy reach of the action in the city centre. It's easy to get around - everything is within walking or pedalling distance, or you can use the fast and frequent bus service. Take a campus tour.
Assessment and feedback
You'll be assessed based on individual essays or reports for most modules. On occasions you'll also produce group reports and presentations, and/or partake in examinations.
You'll have scope to choose forms of assessment that you prefer through optional modules in your second and final years. You could pick modules that emphasise presentation skills, essay writing or exams. In your final year, you could also carry out a dissertation based on you own research and analysis of a current marketing issue that you feel passionate about.
On both Wednesday and Thursday, I have one seminar in the morning. Both of these are in the Church Lane building, so not only can I use the study spaces but, if needed, I can see my lecturers in their office hours here, and talk to the Student Office.
