Learning outcomes for this course
Subject knowledge: Assess digital health and engineering systems by applying core principles of programming, quantitative reasoning, and digital electronics to modern healthcare environments.
Engineering analysis: Evaluate the clinical translation, safety, and effectiveness of different designs of digital health solutions from initial concept to deployment against international regulatory pathways, compliance frameworks, and safety standards.
Practical Skills: Graduates will be able to solve complex technical problems by applying programming, data analytics, system architecture, and measurement skills to design, evaluate, and implement effective solutions, while considering ethical, legal, and societal implications in professional contexts.
Engineering design: Create innovative design solutions to address real-world healthcare problems within systems like the NHS by analysing datasets, executing risk modelling under uncertainty, and explicitly mitigating data quality, bias, and ethical challenges.
Technical Communication: Clearly communicate and explain information in a succinct and technically accurate manner. Produce and interpret technical documentation for different audiences and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams in real-word scenarios.
Project management and professional reflection: Coordinate, execute, and critically evaluate a substantial, independent final-year capstone project, applying appropriate technical methodologies to solve a complex problem while demonstrating effective time management and structured professional reflection.
The fees and funding information here is for students starting in the 2027/28 academic year.
If you take a year abroad or year in industry you'll pay a reduced rate of fees for that year.
Annual tuition fees
UK (home)
International and EU
The UK government has announced its intention to increase tuition fees from £9,790 to £10,050 for the 2027/8 academic year. We expect this to apply to new UK (home) undergraduate students starting their studies in September 2027.
UK (home) or international fees?
The level of fee that you will be asked to pay depends on whether you're classed as a UK (home) or international student. Check your fee status.
Fees for subsequent years
UK (home) fees may increase within the government fee cap in subsequent academic years. We will notify you of any increase as soon as we can.
International fees are subject to increase in subsequent years in line with the prevailing Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate (up to a maximum of 10%).

Teaching format
Our courses are highly intensive. Your timetabled activities each week will include:
Lectures
Practical work
Group project work
Workshops
Computer laboratories
Supervisions
Throughout your degree, you'll work together with other students to create usable devices. This extensive project work is a key component of your degree and will give you the opportunity to not only develop a solid knowledge of engineering design and construction principles, but also key project management, teamwork and leadership skills that are indispensable to employers.
You'll also be expected to spend time studying independently. As you progress through the course you'll take on more independent study, guiding your own learning and developing your project management skills.
Your individual project in your final year will be supervised by an academic member of staff who will guide you through your project.
In the UK, full-time students are expected to spend 1,200 hours a year learning. That's about 40 hours of classes and independent study each week during semesters. Everyone learns at a different rate, so the number of hours you spend on independent study will be different to other students on your course.
